Postdoctoral position to study emotion regulation
A Postdoctoral Researcher is sought to carry out research on a
BBSRC-funded project led by Dr. Tom Johnstone using TMS and fMRI to
probe prefrontal-subcortical connectivity in emotion regulation. The
position is based at the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience &
Neurodynamics (CINN) at the University of Reading, UK. The CINN has a
research-dedicated 3T Siemens Trio MRI scanner, with inbuilt
eye-tracking and psychophysiology, and state-of-the-art TMS, EEG, and
psychophysiology labs. It has attracted over £5M in research funding
in the first three years of its existence.
The principal responsibility will be to conduct TMS and fMRI
experiments on the top-down regulation of emotion and
prefrontal-subcortical connectivity. This will involve managing
participant recruitment, contributing to the scientific design of the
experiments, setting up, piloting and running experiments, data
analysis and writing up results for publication in peer reviewed
journals.
Applicants should have experience in designing, running and analysing
fMRI experiments. Experience with TMS and/or EEG will be an advantage
but is not necessary. Candidates should have solid computing skills,
including the use of Linux and experience with scripting or
programming. The applicant should be well organised, be able to
communicate well with research participants as well as other members
of the scientific team. She/he should be able to work independently
and use prior skills and initiative to solve scientific and analytic
problems as they arise. The PDRA will be expected to co-supervise,
with the PI and another postdoctoral researcher, part time research
assistants and student assistants who help with data collection and
analysis.
Terms and conditions - Full time until the end of the grant in October
2013. Some flexibility with working hours (e.g. occasional evening or
weekend work) to accommodate running of experiments is required.
Enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Tom Johnstone (contact below) who
will be in attendance at the SFN meeting in Washington DC should you
wish to arrange a meeting.
