> Transatlantic Conference on Transparency Research 2012
>
> Dates: June 7-9, 2012
>
> Call for Proposals Deadline: December 1st, 2011
> Location: Utrecht University, Utrecht, Netherlands
>
> Website: www.transparencyconference.nl<http://www.transparencyconference.nl/>
>
>
>
> We are delighted to open the call for proposals for the Transatlantic Conference on Transparency Research. The conference will be hosted by Utrecht University and co-sponsored by the Netherlands Ministry of Internal Affairs.
>
>
>
> Description
>
> The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from North-America and Europe in order to exchange the latest findings and insights concerning transparency and open government. This transatlantic conference on transparency research follows up on the 1st Global Conference on Transparency Research which was held in Newark (NJ) in May 2011. We explicitly aim to bring together scholars from various disciplines such as public administration, law, political science, journalism, sociology, etc.
>
> The conference aims to bring together leading scholars from both North-America and Europe to collectively advance our understanding of the impact and implications of transparency policies. Topics to be included are studies of policies on access to information held by and about governments, investigations of transparency relationships between government entities and theoretical, normative and empirical analyses of access to information held by government about individuals. Papers are invited on any of the above issues.
>
> Possible topics include:
>
> Open government and open data
> ICTs and transparency
> Proactive disclosure
> Costs and benefits of transparency
> Transparency and trust (or legitimacy)
> Civil society and transparency
> International organizations (e.g. the EU) and transparency
> Transparency and regulation
> Legal frameworks for transparency
> Surveillance and transparency
> Normative reflections: transparency and its discontents
> Reduction of corruption through transparency
> Transparency and participation
> Freedom of information
> Conceptual underpinnings of transparency
> Measuring transparency
>
> This list is meant to be illustrative and we look forward to receiving other relevant paper proposals.
>
>
> Submission of Proposals
>
> The program committee for the conference welcomes proposals that feature high quality conceptual, qualitative or quantitative research. Empirical proposals will be evaluated based on the significance and quality of the research question, research design, methods, data, findings, and implications for theory and practice. The program committee also welcomes conceptual proposals without qualitative or quantitative empirical components that develop a theory or theoretical framework.
>
> Proposals from individuals at all stages of their career are welcome. The conference committee will review all proposals and will make the final decisions on the acceptance or rejection of individual proposals. The proposal forms are available at http://www.transparencyconference.nl/proposals/ and should be submitted to Ms. Danielle Fictorie at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by December 1st, 2011.
>
> We will acknowledge receipt and answer all paper proposals submitted. If you do not receive a reply from us in a week, you can assume we did not receive your proposal for some reason. We would then suggest looking for an alternative electronic route or resending.
>
> Conference Language
>
> The working language for the conference is English. All conference presentations will be in English. Conference proposals must be submitted in English.
>
> Conference venue
>
> The conference will be held in the center of Utrecht. Utrecht is centrally located in the Netherlands and only a thirty minute train ride away from the airport and main attractions, such as the city of Amsterdam. Utrecht itself is a beautiful old city with canals, city castles and old academic buildings. The meetings will be held in the Utrecht School of Governance which is conveniently located in the center next to the city moat and close to restaurants and cafes.
>
> Final Papers
>
> Final papers should typically be 25-40 pages long and appropriate to submit to an academic journal. The final document needs to be submitted by April 30, 2012 in a Microsoft Word-compatible or PDF format to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
