Hi Barry
For me the main issue is around risk assessment for safety critical
functions. It is natural that users of such chairs would wish them to
provide all their needs with no additional clutter and for many needs the
generally reliable nature of the systems may well suffice. It seems
reasonable to me that ECS staff should be involved in supporting these
functions, as long as they get agreement from the relevant Service/supplier,
due both to knowledge of how to optimise the interface and also that they
are likely to require ECS peripherals. But my view is that there should be
at least one additional switch-based function for accessing emergency
assistance as a minimum. I further feel that we are now in a cultural
climate where working in silos, against the general betterment of the
client, is not acceptable.
With so many chairs now offering a large range of modular electronic options
that fall outside the traditional, formal remit it is really important that
we look seriously at how to facilitate the external funding of parts of
systems. There's a challenge!
Cheers
Jeremy
