                  Professor of Statistics


The School of Mathematical Sciences at Queen Mary, University of London 
invites applications for the position of Professor of Statistics. The plan 
is to expand the Statistics group by appointing a professor who can build 
up a research group in some area of statistical methodology. Potential 
topics include survey sampling, hierarchical generalized linear mixed 
models, functional data analysis, computational statistics,  variable 
selection in high-dimensional data, Bayesian statistics, statistical 
inference, robust regression, missing data, statistics for sensor networks,
statistical image analysis, biostatistics, environmental statistics,
medical statistics, and spatio-temporal processes. Further appointments 
to the new group are planned for 2013.

The current Statistics group specializes in the Design of Experiments.
It has strong interactions with the other sections of the School of
Mathematical Sciences, and also with the Schools of Biological and
Chemical Sciences, Electronic Engineering and Computer Science,
Engineering and Materials, and Medicine and Dentistry.  The new
research group should be in an area that is distinct from Design of
Experiments but close enough for the two groups to share interests.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding statistician who is
motivated by applications while being strong enough mathematically to fit 
into the School of Mathematical Sciences; have an excellent international 
profile in statistical research; have a good record of obtaining 
competitive research funding; be able to lead research and develop a 
strong group within the School of Mathematical Sciences; be able to
build on the existing research links with other departments at Queen Mary; 
and be able to contribute to the new MSc in Applied Statistics.

The post is full time and permanent. Salary will be by negotiation
within the Professorial range. Benefits include 30 days' annual leave, 
defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK 
in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where 
required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain 
under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
