Many many thanks to wll those who replied to my earlier post asking for recommendations re software for a newbie to Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Apolgies for not replying individually but I had so many responses and so thought it might be useful to others interested in my original posting to summarise the replies I had:
MPlus: this seems to be the favourite and can be applied to a wide range of problems, but is not cheap and can take some time to learn to use.
AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures): this was also quite popular and links with SPSS and so useful if users are familiar with SPSS but again not cheap, but some commented that it may be restricted to continuous variables only.
STATA was also mentioned by some as having a useful SEM routine.
LISREL was also mentioned by several users as dedicated software that they have found useful.
Other software that was recommended that is free to access iuncludes R packages called "LAVAAN" and "SEM" and also some open source software called OPenMx which is also used in conjunction with R.
Hope this is useful feedback. Once again many thanks.
Best wishes
Alun
