Trainee Quantitative Analyst for a Sports Betting Company

Botsphere is a software company providing pricing and trading software for the sports betting industry. We combine expertise in mathematical analysis and research with in-depth sports knowledge, and dominate the sports betting industry in the B2B sector in the UK and abroad.
 
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our research and development team. Successful applicants will work in a multi-skilled environment to develop new pricing and trading strategies incorporating real-time information in order to enhance our products.
 
Have you graduated from university in data modelling, statistics or a maths based discipline? Do you have a strong interest in sports and a drive to succeed in a fast-paced environment? If so this role will be ideal for you. You should have a strong mathematical background (degree level or beyond) with a good knowledge of Excel, VBA and data manipulation together with an interest in sports and statistical analysis. You will help create, develop, and maintain mathematical models for our sports betting products. You will also need to show a flair for mathematical/statistical modelling of sporting events. 
 
 
Specific Role Details: 
As a minimum, applicants should have a good undergraduate degree in a numerate subject and a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will:
- Learn betting methodology and general bookmaking principles; 
- Write test scripts for various sports models in Excel (in house training will be provided); 
- Perform testing of new model functionality. This is not only a vital role for deploying new models but is also a key part of the training to learn about our offering and model methodology; 
- Monitor and analyse competitor offerings through the web; 
- Cleanse and arrange data sets, and perform some data analysis (under supervision as required). 
- Show their ability to work both as part of a team and as an individual contributor 
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills and unparalleled attention to detail;
 
Essential Candidate Requirements: 
- Experience in modelling and forecasting;
- The ability to assess and optimise existing models;
- Experience with handling large datasets and data manipulation; 
 
Ideal Candidate Requirements: 
- Knowledge of statistical software packages such as Matlab, Minitab, SAS ,SPSS
- Experience in programming (R, Fortan, VBA); 
- Strong interest in sports betting.
