INVITATION TO THE eco4r WORKSHOP
"Exposing compound objects in the eco4r project - a hands-on workshop at
SWIB 11"
Dear all,
the DFG funded eco4r project partners are pleased to announce the eco4r
hands-on workshop taking place as part of the SWIB 11 Conference
(Semantic Web in Libraries) <http://swib.org/swib11> at Hamburg.
The workshop is scheduled for November 28 from 1pm to 7pm (reception
starting at 12:15pm).
Both project partners, Bielefeld University Library and Library Service
Center North Rhine-Westphalia, will present the practical results of
their project. Within the last two years, the project has aimed to
foster compound publications for exposure, reuse and archiving.
Therefore, real life repository systems and the compound publications
found therein are examined. The project aimed at exposing the various
components of compound objects, among them data sheets, video
instructions, software and more. The project’s data resource was taken
from existing OPUS (mainly used in Germany) and Fedora repositories at
Bielefeld University and hbz.
We will present two plug-ins for OPUS and Fedora as the main practical
outcome of the project. The plug-ins enable repository content to be
exposed in structured OAI ORE ResourceMaps, allow for their technical
identification as well as re-use across heterogeneous information systems.
Both plug-ins may be configured according to special demands and can be
integrated within OPUS- and Fedora-driven applications. Moreover, we
have built a prototype of a thematic overlay journal which dynamically
aggregates content from repositories using OAI ORE.
In principle, the deployment of OAI ORE Resource Maps allows the reuse
of components within any networked environment. This applies for
existing as well as new infrastructures and service providers
approaching to data aggregation, such as Europeana, Deutsche Digitale
Bibliothek, OA-Netzwerk or DRIVER.
In this workshop, we will present the plug-ins as practically as
possible. Therefore, we encourage all participants to install, configure
and try their hands on the plug-in software on their laptops.
For more specific information about the project and the workshop please
