Final Call for Archives for London Conference 2011 – ‘Learning in London’
Saturday 29th October at University College London, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT
9:30am – 4:30pm
There is just over one week left to book your place on the Archives for London Annual Conference 2011!
London has long had a history as a centre of learning. From the charity schools established in the Middle Ages, to the university colleges developed in the nineteenth century, the city has continuously maintained its position as a place of education, and today London has the largest student population of any British city.
To uncover and explore the many exciting narratives and projects that make up some of London's educational history, Archives for London has brought together some of London’s top academics and archive professionals and we are delighted to have the following conference speakers contributing to the day:
► Jane Martin - Politics and Policy-making in London Education: mapping generations of activism (keynote address)
► Remi Harris and Sarah Garrod – The Origins and Legacy of the George Padmore Institute Supplementary Schools
► Alice Mackay – Education for a new social order: Kingsley Hall, Bow
► Dr Brian Bowers – Aspects of Electrical Engineering Education in London
► Roland Allen, Maureen Roberts, Richard Daniels –
Panel Session: How can archives be used as life-long learning resources?
► Anne Barrett – UCL: a Non-conformist University
► Elizabeth Wells – School Archives: A Neglected Resource?
Delegate fees (including buffet lunch & refreshments) £38 AfL members/£55 non-members (including AfL membership until March 2012)
The final few places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment! Bookings will close at 5pm on Tuesday 25th October.
