I pushed them quite strongly in that direction and away from
t2k.gridpp.ac.uk for precisely this reason.

The T2K project owned the domain name before the VO existed - indeed
doesn't any international project check their domain is free before
naming the project these days!!!
T2K were also fortunate in making the change from t2k to t2k.org before
anyone used them on the grid.
