You can also try SPM's "3D to 4D File Conversion" tool, which can be accessed by opening the batch editor and clicking on SPM:Utility: 3D to 4D File conversion.

Try the FSL command fslchfiletype—something like:
fslchfiletype NIFTI image.img
should give you image.nii.
