Days of Clay: Do you have any memories of the Clay Industry?
A new project, aiming to capture and preserve memories of the china clay
industry is due to get underway during the coming months.
The project begins with a series of ‘memory shops’ planned for the china
clay area during November and December. Members of the community are invited
to get involved and to share their memories and experiences of life in the
china clay industry over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
The ’memory shops’ will be hosted by Veteran BBC Radio broadcaster, Ted
Gundry, who hopes to collect some of the best stories for inclusion in the
making of a new film about the history of the china clay industry.
The new film project, which is run by Azook CIC, has been made possible
through collaboration with Wheal Martyn, The China Clay History Society and
with support from South West Film (Creative England).
Previously unseen archive film footage of the china clay industry, dating
from the 1930s to the 1970s, will be incorporated with photographs and
memories to provide an insight into the highly skilled and close knit
communities whose work and home lives were linked to the china clay industry
through factory hours, clubs and choirs.
The new film will be screened, in the area, for the first time in February
and March 2012, with further details to be announced nearer the time.
If you have a story to tell, or you would simply like to come along for a
chat, meet up with old friends and share your memories, then we would like
to meet you... and why not bring along some of your own old photographs and
memorabilia too!
