Preservation & Stack Management Assistant
Salary: from £19,313
We are looking for an assistant to work in our Preservation & Stack Management Department which is responsible for the physical care of the Library’s books and their accessibility to members. You will help keep the book stacks in good order, assist with book moves, and help identify books in need of repair or replacement. You will assist with book repairs in-house and help prepare batches of books to be rebound externally. Previous experience in this area is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Administrative duties include inputting data and preparing and checking lists. A small part of the job involves creating digital images of fragile material.
Good basic IT skills, an ability to communicate well face-to-face, on the telephone and in writing, plus a genuine interest in the physical welfare of books are essential. The normal hours of work are 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday, but occasional Saturdays and late evenings (currently Monday and Tuesday) on a rota basis will be expected, assisting Members by issuing and returning books.
