Hi Andy.
We have the same environment like you :-).
And we haven't great problems with a load balancing architecture. BUT, I have a doubt with this environment, and I want to know if you have the same issues like us.
Start and stop services are very slow compare with the same database and same files, for example, start and stop in one of the webapp server in our production environment spend 10 min more or less in each webapp. But the same process in one box, we spend 3 min more or less.
Another problem it's when you edit a forum message, in load environment we are waiting for 10 sg and in one box, 2-3 sg more or less.
Do you have the same problem?.
Thanks.

Asunto: Re: VMWare + poor performance?
Hi Kevin,
We are running in a load balanced VMWare environment.
We have 3 application servers on Windows Server 2008, 1 Collab Server, a MS SQL 2008 Database and shared content areas.
All of these environments are on VMWare with 8GB memory each
The load-balancer is a Citrix Netscaler
We have so far encounter no user performance issues other than with Learning Objects which is not related to our set up.
We support about 27K students over 4.5 modules
We did initially have a problem with the performance of some of the module imports, but this was down to the amount of memory that was allocated to Java.
The Blackboard default is 0.5 GB. We upped that to 4GB and it helped a lot.
How does that compare with your set up?
Andy

Subject: VMWare + poor performance?
Any advice for our technical support dep't?
Context:
At our institution, we are setup to run Blackboard 9.1 SP3 on vmware.
Since the start of term, we have experienced (poor) performance issues.
I would be grateful if you could let me know whether you are running the same specs and whether you have experienced similar performance issues?
Regards.
Kevin Brace.
