Practical information management in a changing world
Wednesday 28th September 2011
Museum of London, Clore Learning Centre
9.30am - 12.30pm
Following last year's Improving Information Management workshops, this
session is the first of three aimed at helping museums to develop
appropriate policies and strategies for managing information in a
rapidly changing economic and operating environment.
Many regional and national museums are experiencing a reduction in
resources and/or changes to their status or governance. Effective
information policies and management are vital tools to help museums
make important decisions and maintain confidence in all aspects of their
work. They can also create significant opportunities for organisations
to survive and thrive in difficult times.
Retaining a museum-specific focus while looking beyond the collections,
, these sessions will help participants begin the process of identifying
and addressing the information management issues likely to arise from a
reduction in available resources or from changes to museum governance.
The sessions will assist delegates to identify the risks, priorities and
opportunities presented to their museums from an information management
perspective.
This first half-day session will:
* Work with delegates to identify information management issues
arising from changes to their respective operating environments;
* Use the London Museums Hub Information Policy Framework as a
benchmark for identifying aspects of information policy and management
which may either be vulnerable or particularly significant in the
current environment;
* Provide a framework for assessing the impact (positive and
negative) on information management of ongoing change;
* Help delegates to identify and prioritise practical steps which can
be taken even within organisations subject to change and uncertainty.
This is a participative workshop and will include the review and
analysis of real-life information policies from a range of
organisations, and is aimed at staff who have responsibility for any
aspect of information management within their museums, particularly
those with responsibilities across their organisation.
Although the session will cover some areas already addressed by previous
workshops, the content of this session will be relevant to previous
delegates now encountering change within their organisations. It is also
appropriate for delegates who have not attended previous sessions.
Two additional workshops later in the autumn will further develop this
session's issues and themes.
The session will be presented by Alice Grant Consulting Ltd.
The training is funded by Renaissance through the Museum of London
Regional Programmes Department, and is free for paid or volunteer museum
staff working in London regional museums. To reserve a place, please
