In partnership with teams at SLAC/Stanford, Fermilab and DESY/Hamburg, CERN is building, and will soon be operating, INSPIRE, a next-generation digital library, based on the Invenio software platform. INSPIRE serves 1 million records to 50’000 scientists in the field of high-energy physics worldwide, enabling citation analysis, full-text search, author disambiguation and article claiming and much more.
A beta version of INSPIRE is available at http://inspirebeta.net. INSPIRE collaborates closely with sister infrastructures arXiv at Cornell and NASA/ADS at Harvard, as well as leading scientific publishers in the field and is a founding member of the ORCID initiative.
CERN is looking for a manager for the INSPIRE service at CERN who will:
* Co-ordinate the INSPIRE day-to-day operations under CERN responsibility: from content ingestion and curation workflows to software integration and deployment.
* Lead junior software engineers and students who are developing short- and medium-term solutions for INSPIRE specific needs.
* Play a leading role in the design and implementation of solutions for seamless interoperability of INSPIRE, arXiv, NASA/ADS and ORCID.
* Analyse both user feedback and usage logs, to suggest initiatives to enhance user experience and service level.
Qualification required
* University Degree (MSc or PhD) in a scientific discipline, preferably in computing science or physics.
Experience and competencies
* At least five years in the operation of a large-scale digital library, with user-facing responsibilities.
* Work experience in a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Python) and version control systems, preferably in open source projects.
* Understanding of how scholarly communication works, preferably in High-Energy Physics.
We offer a limited-duration contract for a period of five years. Limited-duration contracts shall terminate by default on their date of expiry. Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may be granted an indefinite contract.
These functions might require limited participation in stand-by duty for the maintenance and operation of INSPIRE, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
