package: $102K - $121K pro-rata p.a. which includes leave loading and up

The Save Sight Institute was established in 1985 and has grown to be one
of the top three ophthalmic research institutes in Australia. It is
internationally recognised as a centre of innovative research into
ophthalmology and as a centre of excellence for clinical research,
learning and teaching. Ophthalmology is a highly specialised area of
clinical medicine and science and the Save Sight Institute has gathered
together a critical mass of clinicians, researchers, equipment and
technology which is unique within the University of Sydney.
The Fight Retinal Blindness project has established a system of national
ongoing prospective audit of the outcomes of the emerging treatments for
macular disease using a purpose written, web based software system and
other novel data collection strategies. We are seeking to appoint a
Research Fellow to undertake scientific, statistical and analytical
aspects of the project to ensure achievement of project outcomes under
direction of the Chief Investigator.
In this role you will:
* plan and execute analyses of the FRB! data
* prepare a statistical analysis plan and timeline in
conjunction with the Chief Investigator
* extract information from the database using queries and
extraction programs, verify, clean, analyse and report on the extracted
data
* develop, implement and monitor Quality Assurance protocols to
ensure veracity of data
* design and generate regular reports which benchmark
clinicians' practice against others contributing to the data collection
* assist with preparation of research findings for publication.
To succeed in this role you will have:
* postgraduate Degree or equivalent in statistics,
biostatistics, health information management in a science or related
field and training in research methods
* demonstrated experience in design of health research projects
and demonstrated experience using statistical analysis software and
undertaking statistical analysis of health research projects
* ability to verify, clean and analyse data and extract
information from a database using both simple and complex queries
* demonstrated experience with database query writing and
reporting
* familiarity with quality assurance activities including
performance benchmarking
* working knowledge of, and commitment to, State and Federal
privacy legislation with regard to database security and management of
confidential information
* familiarity with ophthalmology or eye health information
management (desirable)
* sound organisational skills and ability to manage conflicting
priorities and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
