Neuroimaging Research Assistant (part-time 0.6FTE)
UNSW Research Unit for Schizophrenia Epidemiology & School of Psychiatry, University of New South Wales
The Schizophrenia Research Institute (SRI) is a medical research institute whose goal is to prevent and cure schizophrenia. Established in 1996 as Australia's first virtual medical research Institute, the organisation conducts and supports schizophrenia research in hospitals, universities and research institutes across the country and internationally.
The Institute has established a Cognition & Connectivity Research Panel that focuses on research investigating abnormal brain development as the basis of disordered cognition and aberrant neural connectivity in schizophrenia.
A Neuroimaging Research Assistant (0.6FTE) is required to analyse functional and structural neuroimaging data from multiple studies. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for investigating and implementing new analysis methods as required, and for programming and pilot-testing of new functional MRI protocols. The position will promote and maintain collaborative schizophrenia research across the network of SRI-affiliate researchers to facilitate increased research outputs.
The candidate will have the necessary experience, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:
1) an undergraduate degree in psychology, neuroscience, or statistics (or in final year of the degree);
2) competency with statistical analysis software (SPSS/PASW or equivalent) and Microsoft Office software;
3) good knowledge of statistical and research methods; ability to work in a collaborative research team;
4) good communication skills, and highly developed organisational skills;
5) and the ability to travel between the two sites;
6) A demonstrated interest in functional neuroanatomy is required
Prior experience with imaging software (particularly SPM) would confer an advantage, as would a working knowledge of programming skills across a range of platforms (e.g., Matlab or C++). Individuals interested in pursuing graduate studies are particularly encouraged to apply.
