I have personally chaired the last Design Principles and Practices
conference, which was held in Rome at Sapienza University and
furthermore I have been asked for acting as Keynote for next one in Los
Furthermore, I have been reviewing some of the paper proposals for a
couple of times. Having said that, Common Ground organizes scientific
conferences in a number of different fields and holds a journal where
are published a selection of the papers presented at their conferences.
I have personally published a couple of mine and had to go through a
review which is electronically blind.
At the same time, I personally don't recall any other conference where I
presented (Cumulus, ICSID, EAD, DesignED, ...), where I didn't have to
pay for registration and of course it is easily understandable that any
kind of organization has its costs..
On another level, it is true that its design perspective is quite
extensive, reaching interdisciplinary different kind of design, from
graphic to product, to interaction and so on. Then, if you are looking
for a very focused conference, this is not the case. At the same time,
it is true that it is very close to a general trend in the global design
community to match interdisciplinary topics in an olistic way.. On the
top of that, every conference is somehow also the result of the work of
the University which hosts it and then every time may be a different
I wish this may help,

> - There is a spam report on the publishing company in the chronicle
> - The CEO of the company is presenting their business model at YouTube about paying for getting things published (as I understand it)
> - A person from the advisory board didn't even know of the conference
