Hi Jodie,
Chris Lewis, from Tees Valley Music Service, part of the Stockton-tees Borough Council LEA, works with schools on introducing some traditional Chinese music instruments such as (dulcimer),古筝(zither),笛子(flute) and 葫芦丝(hulusi). He has been helping schools learn to use traditional Chinese musical instruments and also to mix them with western musical instruments such as guitar, double base and ect. The ensemble of the mixed instruments can be quite amazing. Some of the teachers on this forum may still remember the talk and the music Chris brought to the audience of the 2008 SSAT Chinese conference which was held at Kingsford school at East London.
He can be contacted by email [log in to unmask] . I was speaking to him just now and he would be delighted to offer some advice on using Chinese music on cross-curricular projects and can possibly organise workshops if suitable.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Best wishes,
Naomi

Subject: Chinese Music
Hi everyone!
I am looking to work with the music department in my school in Coventry on a cross-curricular project on Chinese music. They do a small unit on traditional Chinese musical instruments in Y8 and they also do a big art/drama/dance/music project on world cultures. Does anyone know if there is anyone out there who has Chinese instruments that they take into schools to do workshops/performances etc? Also, if anyone has any resources about Chinese music (traditional or contemporary) I would be really grateful if you would be willing to share them with me.
Thanks,
Jodie Gardiner
