Hi Fiona
We've had some good customer interaction on our facebook page but I would resist the urge to quantify the value of the page in numbers as it's very easy to "like" something then never come back! It's been a really valuable way of getting timely messages out and stimulating discussion. Customers have also taken the opportunity to tell us the sort of things you often don't hear about on comments forms such as what they think of Books on Prescription schemes, how they value study space, what they think of the interior of the new Allesley Park library etc.
Considering the minimal staff time involved in setting up the page and making sure it stays lively, It seems a no-brainer. It's important to be where the customers are and alot of them are on facebook. It's also very helpful as a way of directing people to your online resources as they can instantly click on posted links rather than relying on printed material.
I'm sure other people have created business cases which they've made available online so it might be worth searching the lis-pub-libs or lis-web2 archives or Google.
Best of luck
