Northamptonshire Record Society library currently has a hand-written card
catalogue and a fairly obscure classification system for its c.4,000 items,
mostly books, pamphlets and serials.
I'm looking for a management system that can deliver a catalogue which is
easily searchable by members (no limit on keywords), offers automatic
accession numbers and authority files to maintain consistency among
cataloguers and even perhaps access to BL bibliographic data. Oh, and it
mustn't cost much. I would love to hear the experiences of other librarians
who have hauled small specialist collections into the 21st century. Any
recommendations, caveats?
Thanks for any help you can offer me
