Dear Lis-linkers,
The OCLC EMEA Regional Council invites submissions to give a Pecha Kucha
presentation at the OCLC EMEA Regional Council Meeting 2012 in
Birmingham on 28th February 2012. Shortlisted candidates will have the
opportunity to win an iPad, awarded for the best presentation.
The theme of the presentation should be:
Innovations in my library - how we engage with OCLC
We're looking for libraries that are innovating in a particular area of
their service provision and are engaging with OCLC in the process. You
might be utilising APIs or services from OCLC in your innovation. Or,
perhaps you are a member of staff at an institution that is currently
piloting new functionality with OCLC? You could be participating in a
research project with our team at OCLC Research to deepen the
community's understanding of workflows or practices? Or collaborating on
a community initiative which involves OCLC and others to develop
standards? We're looking for librarians from all areas, technical and
non-technical who can talk about their experience of engaging with OCLC
to innovate.
The format will be a Pecha Kucha session.
What is Pecha Kucha?
Pecha Kucha provides an opportunity to deliver a short and creative
presentation, whilst observing the strict rules of this increasingly
popular presenting style. The rules whilst strict, actually encourage
innovation in how information is presented and more often than not
leads to unexpected insights and perspectives into ideas.
Pecha Kucha requires that presentations (Power Point) are delivered
using exactly 20 slides, with each slide being displayed for exactly 20
seconds, so that the total length of the presentation is 6 minutes and
40 seconds. Presenters must set their slide shows so that each slide
automatically transitions after 20 seconds. Within these constraints you
are encouraged to be as creative as possible. Timing is very important
and presenters will be stopped if they go over the maximum time allowed
for each presentation. For examples, take a look at:
www.pecha-kucha.org.
Why A Pecha Kucha Session?
As an important networking occasion for members in the EMEA region, this
part of the Regional Council Meeting will provide an invaluable
opportunity to hear from peers and practitioners, to explore new ideas
and ways of working, maybe pave the way for future collaborations, and
provide talking points throughout the rest of the event.
How do I submit?
You will need to provide an outline of the idea/innovation you would
like to present on no more than one side of A4 paper. Please include the
following details in the outline:
* Name
* Contact details
* Organisation
* Summary of the innovation you would like to present
* One sentence on why you think members would be interested to
hear about your project
Send your submission to [log in to unmask] by 14th October 2011.
Submissions will be submitted to the Executive Committee for
consideration on 6th November. If you are successful you will be
notified by 19th November.
Successful candidates will be invited to present at the Regional Council
Meeting. Although a prize for the best presentation - as voted by the
audience - will be given, we cannot unfortunately subsidise travel or
accommodation for anyone wishing to submit.
If you have any queries regarding the Pecha Kucha session please contact
Nicolette on the email above or telephone +44 (0)121 456 7725.
