On a related note, it's interesting to read the third comment on Ben's article by someone who thinks this would solve the problem of high costs of academic journals:
"There isn't a major library in the U.S. (and I suspect most other places in the world) that doesn't have JSTOR access, and generally available over the Web. Get a library card. Go to you library's web site. Go to their online databases. Go to JSTOR. Read and download whatever you want".
Simple!

Close fans of Ben Goldacre may well have read this. http://www.badscience.net/2011/09/academic-papers-are-hidden-from-the-public-heres-some-direct-action/
So if a bloke in bicycle helmet and an american accent sidles up to you in a pub and offers you few million academic journals for a pint or two... it might be a bit dodgy...
Also there is an interesting read about the academic publishing industry from Saturday's Guardian - mentioned in Ben's article. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/29/academic-publishers-murdoch-socialist - not sure I'm with the author on the socialist Murdoch bit myself...
