Well I can't help, I tend to buy a lot of academic books second hand from
Oxfam when they are no longer in there first edition.
All I can say is this is just another example of what is rotten in the state
of academic publishing and makes me think twice about wanting that sort of
cachet on any book I would write. One expects with a publishing contract
that the publisher has the expertise with regard to researching the market
and selling the book, not the author. FWIW if that is what they are like
they are not much better than "vanity publishing" and you might as well go
your own way and self publish and distribute through forums such as this
one.
There's not that much that needs to be known about getting a book, or a
journal into print, the difficult bit is marketing it, but isn't that what
the premium on the price is supposed to cover?
I suppose I could put in a recommendation to my library to acquire it, but I
am not sure they would consider it relevant, the only reason they have my
DVD, despite the fact that there is some demand is because I gave them a
copy.
