Some ideas from our reclassification workflow:
For our larger reclassification mini-projects, we've used volunteers and student assistants to label and move items, like Helen to save cataloguer time. Over the course of various mini-projects, we've learnt that using LMS reports as much as possible is the most efficient method, so we can have the clearest sense of scale that we can before we start (as mentioned before, going down to our shelves doesn't help much with this). We've also changed the item process status to "labelling", so at least readers aren't looking for items which we are reclassifying. We have also focussed on retrieving items which are in a reclassified section but are out on loan as quickly as possible (as if an academic staff member has the item out, if we wait for the reclassified item to return naturally, it might be almost a year before it comes back).

Subject: [CIG-E-FORUM] Reclassification workflows
So far today, we have heard about the range of staff involved in reclassification projects as well as the use of the outsourcing option. We also the need to minimise the impact on library users. It would be interesting to hear what reclassification workflow and processes have been developed and used.
With the projects I've worked on, I have tried to maximise the use of mapping numbers across and using the global edit function in our LMS.
I've also tried to maximise cataloguing time, by getting additional library assistant time to handle the books where possible.
