PLEASE RESPOND TO DETAILS BELOW.
The NIHR Medicines for Children Research Network is part of the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network, and forms part of the UK Clinical Research Network. The Networks support and deliver high quality clinical research studies.
These appointments offer an exciting opportunity to improve the conduct of research which aims to improve the health and well being of children by advising the Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN). The MCRN facilitates the conduct of randomised trials and other well-designed studies of medicines for children, including those for prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Thirteen Clinical Studies Groups (CSGs) oversee the development of a high quality Portfolio of research for the MCRN and review proposed studies. Advice from CSG members contributes to decisions about whether studies are adopted on to the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Portfolio and whether studies should be supported by the MCRN and other research networks. All of our CSGs work very closely with the NIHR Paediatrics (Non-Medicines) Specialty Group ensuring bi-directional communication of medicines and non-medicines research.
CSGs have the following remit:
To be responsible for developing and overseeing its Portfolio of studies;
To propose and develop new trials and other well-designed studies;
To consider studies proposed by others and advise the MCRN Study Assessment Committee;
To provide specific advice to investigators;
To ensure consumer involvement in all activities.
The Methodology CSG will consider how methodological issues arising in trials involving children could be addressed to promote the quality, efficiency and number of paediatric trials and other types of studies. The group will also consider other types of studies conducted within the MCRN, working closely with the NIHR Paediatrics (Non-Medicines) Specialty Group. CSGs currently hold 2 face-to-face meetings per year (plus teleconferences as required). In addition, members may be asked to comment on documents electronically.
We are looking for 2 methodologists (statisticians or health economists) to be members of the group. Areas within the remit of the group include: methods for applying research evidence to children, primary care, diagnostic testing, health economics, and use of record linkage. The successful applicants will have a commitment to developing research relevant to children.
Selection will be made against set criteria (see below) and the appointment will be made strictly on merit. The appointment is for three years and is a voluntary, not remunerated position. Travel expenses for meetings will be reimbursed.
