The Unit is offering an exciting opportunity to work in ESRC grant funded project looking at inequalities in healthy active life expectancy (HLE). The aim of the post in the BSU is to use national and international datasets to compare methods for calculating HLE with cross-sectional and longitudinal data, with particular reference for longitudinal data to missing values and unequal time intervals between waves to ensure that estimated differences are robust.
A statistician or mathematical demographer is required to contribute to this grant within a wider programme of research into statistical aspects of ageing epidemiology. The post-holder will have access to national and international datasets and collaborators to draw together the most recent advances in the field and provide guidance on appropriate methods for researchers in the field (via workshops). The role will have the potential to involve methodological development and direct application of results balanced to the skills of the post-holder.
You will have a PhD in statistics, demography, or relevant subject, or a Masters degree and substantial research experience. Knowledge/experience of multi-state models or demography would be advantageous. Statistical computing skills (preferably R) are essential. You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers.

Starting salary will be in the range of £26,022 - £27,623 per annum.
