This is an umbo (or umbone) from an oyster - i.e. the hinge. It looks like
a right valve, but I wouldn't usually try to side an umbo unless there is
part of the muscle scar showing. Species identification would require
information about location and period, but it looks very like _Ostrea
edulis_ from the photos.
If you are trying to get an MNI for the shell then this can be included -
n=1 if the only umbo in the context!
