Social Cognition Cologne – University of Cologne
We invite applications for a PhD position in the Social Cognition
Cologne research group at the University of
Cologne, Germany. The position is funded for two years (65% TVL13) with
a potential for extension.
This position is to work on a research grant awarded to Professor Thomas
Mussweiler jointly
with Professor David Linden at Cardiff University, UK. This grant is
funded by the ESRC through
their bilateral programme with the German Research Council (DFG). The
aim of the project is to
investigate the neural substrates of social comparison, one of the most
pervasive cognitive
processes humans engage in. The work will involve the adaptation of
paradigms from social
psychology research for functional imaging and the acquisition and
analysis of behavioural and
imaging data. The successful candidate will work closely with Doctor
Gayannée Kedia from the
Cologne team.
The ideal candidate would have a master in social psychology or
cognitive neuroscience,
experience with neuroimaging techniques (e.g., fMRI, EEG, TMS) and an
interest in the
application of these skills to current topics in social psychology.
The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible.
Social Cognition Cologne is a lively research group chaired by Thomas
Mussweiler. Our
research focuses on a broad array of topics in and beyond social
cognition. Current research
projects examine the role of comparison in social information
processing, basic and applied
aspects of judgment and decision making, the self, stereotyping, and
others. In addition, we are
engaged in collaborative projects with colleagues in experimental
economics and social
neuroscience. For more information see
http://social-cognition.uni-koeln.de/. The University of
Cologne offers excellent research facilities. The University of Cologne
is an equal opportunity
employer in compliance with the German disability laws. Women and
persons with disabilities
are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two letters of
recommendation, a cover letter
describing their research interests as well as their motivation to apply
for this specific position.
Applications in electronic form can be sent to Gayannée Kedia at
[log in to unmask] The
deadline for applications is September 15th, 2011.
