Subject: Shared Thinking
Dear All,
I am near to completing my PhD at University of Glasgow. I've developed a
group-generated approach to social norms called Shared Thinking. I
implemented it in different institutions and it went down really well for
all kinds of different applications. I thought some of you might be
interested.
It uses voting technology but not to present ready-made options. These are
group-specific instead. Through creating a sense of belonging
(identification) the idea was to foster alignment to the situated actual
group-norms. We found it effective for a variety of applications.
I've about 3 months before leaving Glasgow and have no job hence I've set up
a consultancy around Shared Thinking as an innovative social norms approach.
We've implemented it in groups of up to 300 in a single session, using
interactive whiteboard technology, and I've developed a whole system of
activities and support for the process. It also provides detailed measures
of group-situated norms.
I plan to offer some workshops after the summer holidays - probably in York
(I live in Malton now) and if anyone is interested in knowing more I'm happy
to respond. There are a few articles already in press to appear soon and the
web site is http://sharedthinking.info .
