New poetry book *QWERTY *by Andrew Burke now available from Mulla Mulla
Press at http://www.mullamullapress.com/ <http://www.mullamullapress.com/>
Thanks to you guys and the SNAP programme for helping me continue to write.
You've seen a lot of the shit (thanks, Suzi) but hopefully some of the
richness has risen to the surface and appears in this book. No weeping or
gnashing of teeth, but slices of humour and humanity. As Australian poet *Lucy
Dougan* writes,
"Andrew Burke is our Puck, our trickster, and aren’t we so very lucky for
that. In the one move he would hoodwink us and in the next sum up the play
(or life) so deftly and so sincerely that we are left breathless.
*Qwerty* bears
all the very stylish marks of later-life writing. Here nothing is forced,
everything is earned and for that reason it feels right. This mercurial
voice is funny, sad, absurd and wise by turns –open to loss and open to joy
in equal measure. If I had to take a journey through a dark wood I would
absolutely pack this book."
Go to my blog at http://hispirits.blogspot.com to see the bright cover - and
go to the publisher's website to read an example poem.
Well, I'm off to Perth Poetry Club this afternoon to hear my friend Barbara
Temperton read - with a handful of books to sell. One must help the
publisher Coral Carter recoup her costs!
