medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
apologies for cross-posting
Dear all,
I have just posted to my online archive a page of images of the porphyry
Tetrarchs in Venice. In addition to overall shots, I was able to get
side and angle views (showing e.g. the hidden hand on the shoulder of
one of the west figures), and details of the heads, sword hilts, etc. I
was fascinated by the shoes, so there are several images of those. And
while I have not myself been to Istanbul, I have included a Wikimedia
link to one figure's heel that was left behind when the group was taken
to Venice. In addition to finding the Tetrarchs through my indices, see
the separate page:
www.KornbluthPhoto.com/Tetrarchs.html
On a related matter, I will soon be spending six weeks in Europe doing
research and photography. My itinerary will be: London, Saint Albans,
Cambridge, Brussels, Tournai, Paris, Saint-Denis, Sens, and probably
Auxerre and Reims. I have individually contacted those of you whom I
know to be interested in images. I am sending this note to the list now
to ask that anyone who would like to see photos of specific items from
those places get in touch with me (on or off list). If you want to
commission photography that would be great; but if you would simply like
something to appear in my archive, do let me know that as well. I keep a
list of desiderata (both specific objects and things like certain
subjects and media) so that if I happen to see something that I know is
wanted I can shoot it.
The next excursion after this one will be to a conference in Budapest,
with possible stops in Switzerland, Italy, and Croatia.
best,
Genevra
