A number of UK institutional repository managers have been in touch with the Names project since my last post, offering information about their researchers to improve the data in the system. This will help us create unique identifiers for individuals to help improve searching and retrieval within and across repositories and other systems.
In response to this interest, there is now a specification available for the data we need in order to match or create records for individuals within Names. There's a blog post about it here: http://namesproject.wordpress.com/2011/08/15/data-submission-spec/ (or http://tinyurl.com/namesdata).
This information can be sent direct to Dan Needham ([log in to unmask]). Once records are matched or created, data will be returned to institutions with Names identifiers associated with each individual.
Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved.
Best wishes,
Amanda
