i moved to vancouver just in time for the recent 'hockey riot' in my
neighbourhood; i live right downtown. there was the same sort of commentary
in the press of the riot being simple thuggery with an opportunity. and, no
doubt, it was that. but, also, around here, there's of course
dissatisfaction. nothing but mcjobs. highest unemployment rate in canada.
lots of money around, apparently, but it isn't in hand. a government that
has chopped arts funding down to a pittance of its former pittance. a
conservative government called 'the liberals'. robbing us blind. so, you
know, there wasn't a lot about that in the press.
