Can anyone help?
Most of the literature on conflict, war and migration focuses on
refugees, IDPs and other people who flee conflict zones. But conflict
and war also involves the movement of people INTO conflict zones.
Does anyone know of any literature on the movement of military
personnel, aid workers, NGOs and ancillary staff into conflict zones? (I
am aware of the vast literature on conflict, military and humanitarian
intervention and peace-building - but I am not aware of anything which
view these through the lens of migration).
The one thing which I have come across is a recent piece in the New
Yorker on migrant workers flown into Iraq and Afghanistan to work on US
military bases (in a form that international policy documents would
probably refer to as human trafficking, or people smuggling, if it was
organised informally). The Invisible Army: For foreign workers on U.S.
bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, war can be hell.

Any suggestions welcome.
