Perhaps it is time to see the incommensurable nature of a Michael Bay experience and a Terence Malik experience. I agree that the moronic element of adolescence is high, but it always has been, and many of us would have to admit personal (temporary)membership. However, by insisting on talking the same language about films that are clearly distinct in form and content and industrial intent perhaps we need to develop a new language that dismantles the pop/indie binary. As a teacher of adolescents who showed them Vertigo and dark knight back to back all is not lost. But as somebody trying to navigate the world of film criticism sometimes it is this world that is more troubling as it unsuccessfully attempts to constantly assert terrorities of interpretation.
