What I am about to say is only an example, but I wonder if it happens
more often than we think. I had a problem with my knee, the resident
told me that I was evolving well and did not even need an MRI,
however his supervisor not only ordered an MRI, he also scheduled
knee surgery despite my resistance. I cancelled the surgery sought a
second opinion in Europe and I was told that I did not need surgery.
This was 3 years ago, my knee is OK, I can do everything I did
before the event, and I did not have surgery. In my opinion, the
older physician was thinking was his pocket book in mind, not in the
best interest of the patient.
