Of course we can separate and we need to in South Africa. Delysia makes a very accurate observation which must not be missed! Jack also clarified Mandela's understanding (not the ANC's)[it was a video clip!] of the African ontology of Ubuntu - which is much more than "I am because we are"! It is linked strongly to Jack's notion of promoting "the use of research to improve education and serve the public good".

Can we separate Mandela from the ANC? He was the founder, leader, face
and persona of the ANC.
