medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
the Bn's Gallica site has added this interesting and rather scarce early
modren work on Chartres:
Roulliard,...
Paris: R. Thierry et P. Chevalier, 1609

most famous for its transmission of the legend that there was a grotto sacred
to a "Virgini Paraturae" with an "Autel des Druides" (illustrated in a woodcut
frontispiece) before the coming of the Christian cult, Roulliard seems to have
quite a bit else to say about the traditions of the place as he knew them at
the dawn of the17th c.
the .pdf is a remarkably clear scan (Gallica finally seems to be getting its
act together on that front) of a remarkably mediocre print job (almost as bad
as most 17th c. English books).
