Dear MCGers,
there's a discussion that I'd love to get your thoughts on the museum
API wiki (http://bit.ly/qlwjpF) and twitter. The question is 'What
problems do cultural heritage organisations face that open data could
help with?'
You can comment on the question at
http://museum-api.pbworks.com/w/page/43748313/problems%20open%20data%20could%20fix
(short version if the link breaks: http://bit.ly/qlwjp) or I could
pass on discussion from here.
In terms of communicating with people outside the sector, it's
probably more important to share the problems that cultural heritage
organisations face than think specifically about opportunities for
open data.
(As background, the discussion came out of thinking about the barriers
to open, re-usable data from museums, libraries, archives and an
understanding that cultural heritage organisations are operating under
difficult circumstances, and this tends to focus their collective
minds on proposals that either solve problems they already know
they're facing, or that require no resources (attention, time or
budget) from them.)
Cheers, Mia
