At Southampton Solent University we allow Emeritus Professors to borrow
books with the same restrictions as for external members -but not ask
them to pay
E-Resources - No access - licence issues plus no university login for
Shibboleth access
IT facilities - no access - no university login or password so no access
-software licence issues/data protection issues etc
Photocopying - access to coin operated photocopier as with visitors
ILLs - charge externals so assume would charge
Help = same level of general support as would offer a visitor - as stated
in other's emails, can be limited by inability to direct to eResources
that they are not able to view
Aware that some databases do offer guest access so they can use our guest
access pc to view public sites/ the very few databases offering guest
access. This very limited, no printing available so need to save to usb
stick (would need university login to use managed printing service) . All
the databases that they would ever want to access explicitly state that
must be staff and student access only so not very enticing offering in
reality
In short , no longer staff/student so only offered free external member
access with all restrictions that entails .
