The Royal Statistical Society is holding, jointly with Significance, a special one-day 'Hot Topic' conference on the topic of 'Food Security for Cities'. The event will take place on Tuesday 13 September at the Society.
Food prices are rising worldwide. Production is under increasing pressure from such factors as climate change. Patterns of urban consumption and distribution are changing rapidly. Food-related disturbances have already destabilised governments. The conference will focus on topics such as these.
Invited speakers will include David Satterthwaite (International Institute for Environment and Development), Chris Smaje and Duncan Green (Research Director, Oxfam). Articles by Chris Smaje and others on the topic appear in the June 2011 issue of Significance.
The organisers are now inviting submissions for contributed talks of 15-20 minutes on topics related to the title of the conference. Submissions of no more than 250 words should be sent to Paul Gentry ([log in to unmask]) by 1 August at the latest. Please note no expenses will be paid to contributed speakers.
