HEALTH ECONOMICS RESEARCH CENTRE

University of Oxford
Department of Public Health

Senior Researcher in Health Economics & Large clinical trials

Grade 9, Salary 42,733 - 49,539 p.a
If no suitable applicant is forthcoming, an appointment on the grade 8 scale 36,862 - 44,016 p.a. (with appropriate adjustment of duties) may be considered.

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) wishes to appoint an outstanding Senior Researcher in the area of health economics and large clinical trials. You will play a key role in developing and applying the analytical methods to be used in the economic analyses for a number of large trials in the area of cardiovascular disease in collaboration with other health economists at HERC. The development of the economic analyses based on data from a recently completed large-scale international clinical trial (the Study of Heart and Renal Protection) will be the focus of the appointment in the first instance. This is a unique opportunity to work in collaboration with trialists, epidemiologists and statisticians at the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU).

You will be involved in the strategic planning and development of these research programmes and ensure successful completion of the projects to a high standard. You will contribute to the development of this area of research through developing the methods to support this work and establishing strong links with external contacts in the field. The role will also involve supervising junior members of staff and taking part in some of the broader teaching activities of the department.
You should have a doctoral degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics or other quantitative discipline and a recognised research reputation supported by a strong publication record. Excellent interpersonal, communication and data analysis skills are also essential. You should also have prior research experience in the area of health technology assessment, health economics or disease modelling.
Informal enquiries about this post can be directed to Dr. Borislava Mihaylova (01865 289226, email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) or Professor Alastair Gray (01865 289279, email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

The post will be based at the Department of Public Health, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford and is offered full-time for 3 years in the first instance.

The post reference is 100447. The closing date for applications is midday on 20 July 2011 and it is planned to hold interviews on 23 August 2011.
