Applications are invited to take up an NIHR Senior Investigator's Research Methods Fellowship for a full-time Medical Statistician to be co-hosted by Prof Morris Brown (Clinical Pharmacology Unit) and Dr Chris Palmer (Centre for Applied Medical Statistics [CAMS], Department of Public Health and Primary Care) in the University of Cambridge. The post is specifically designed to provide an opportunity to develop and train for a career in medical statistics.
Within CAMS, the main duties will be to act as statistical consultant and collaborator to clinical researchers working in and around Cambridge, and can involve developing or participating in short course teaching on statistical issues to clinical researchers and other health-related backgrounds. The statistical focus of the Clinical Pharmacology Unit is in the design and analysis of clinical trials, particularly as applied to hypertension and cardiovascular outcome trials. The Fellow will be closely involved with the latter stages of the conduct and analysis of a series of three inter-linked 'PATHWAY' trials (PI: MJB, statistician: CRP) in hypertension. Skills and expertise in parallel group and crossover trials will be developed under supervision.
In summary, the Fellowship is an ideal opportunity to offer on-the-job training, with a balance between gaining experience across general medical statistics applications and with particular focus on clinical pharmacology studies.
The appointment will be at either Research Assistant or Research Associate level, depending upon prior qualifications and experience. It is anticipated the Fellow may or may not already possess a degree in Statistics or related field.
