PhD studentship:
The use and impact of reporting guidelines on the quality of published research in public health
Reporting guidelines can be an important way of improving the reporting of primary research, and may also impact positively on the quality of research methods. Although they have had a significant impact on the quality of reporting of randomised controlled trials, they are more rarely used in evaluations of public health interventions. This research will investigate the extent to which reporting guidelines are used (if at all) by public health researchers, how they are used, and why their use varies so much. The project provides the opportunity for developing substantial transferable quantitative and qualitative research skills, and should appeal to those from a wide range of disciplines.
