Subject: JISC Grant Funding 07/11: JISC Managing Research Data Programme (02) 2011-13: Call for Proposals

The JISC invites institutions to submit proposals for projects under separate three strands of the Managing Research Data Programme(02) 2011-13. Total funding of approximately 4,600,000 will be available.

STRAND A(1): Institutional Research Data Management Infrastructure: Projects to help universities that are at an early stage of developing a research data infrastructure.
Projects should scope and develop a pilot research data management infrastructure in an appropriate department(s) of faculty(ies). Projects should also propose an institutional data management policy, present a business case for sustainability and provide costing information.

STRAND A(2): Institutional Research Data Management Infrastructure: Projects to help universities to embed and extend an existing pilot research data management infrastructure.
Projects should build on the work of an existing pilot research data management infrastructure and extend it more broadly. Projects in this strand should also aspire to obtain institutional 'ratification' for a data management policy, present a business case for sustainability and provide costing information.

FUNDING: Total funding of approximately 3M is available for projects in Strand A(1) and (2) to run for up to 18 months.

STRAND B: Research Data Management Planning for Projects or Departments.
Projects to design and implement research data management plans for specific projects/departments; including supporting systems and tools

FUNDING: Total funding of approximately 1M is available for projects to run for up to 6 months. Funding of up to 100,000 is available for each projects. Proposals requesting less funding are strongly encouraged.

STRAND C: Integrated Research Data Management Planning Tools for Institutions. Projects to develop and implement institutional data management planning tools/workflows. Specifically this must involve customising the DCCs DMP Online tool for institutional use and ensuring interoperability with institutional grant costing and research information management systems.

FUNDING: Total funding of approximately 600,000 is available for projects to run for up to 12 months. Funding of up to 100,000 is available per project.

DEADLINE: The deadline for receipt of proposals in response to this call is 12:00 noon UK time on Thursday 28 July 2011.

Funding is available for projects to start no later than 3 October 2011.

The three strands will run for different durations:

 *   A(1) and (2) must complete by 31 March 2013.
 *   Strand B must complete by 31 March 2012.
 *   Strand C must complete by 30 September 2012.

ELIGIBILITY: This initiative is funded entirely by HEFCE; JISC's other funders, the devolved Funding Councils, have not contributed to this investment. For this reason, proposals may be submitted only by English Higher Education (HE) Institutions funded by HEFCE.

Proposals may be from single institutions or consortia unless indicated otherwise in the relevant call. Partnership arrangements may be developed outside the sector (for example with research council sites, publishers, commercial suppliers), but the lead partner must meet the criteria outlined above. Funds can only be allocated through the lead partner.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Further information can be found at http://www.jisc.ac.uk/fundingopportunities/funding_calls/2011/06/managingresearchdata.aspx

COMMUNITY BRIEFING EVENT: JISC will hold a Community Briefing event where potential bidders will be given information about the background to the Call, its objectives and the bidding process. This meeting will take place on Friday 1 July, at Goodenough College, London. Registration is available at https://www.eventsforce.net/jisc/132/home
