I recall, from years ago when I was still in Edinburgh (1968 or so),
that the University distributed a questionnaire, as part of a
national survey being run by a Professor of Education somewhere
(I forget now who it was), which sought to investigate the time-loads
on academics in their normal work.
One of the questions was to the effect:
What proportions of your time do you spend on
[A] Teaching
[B] Research
[C] Administration
to which I answered
[A]: 70% [B]: 70% [C]: 70%
(pretty much accurately, in fact). I've occasionally wondered,
since then, how that breakdown fitted into the analysis ...
Best wishes to all,
Ted.
