Subject: Qualitative Data Analysis: Software Training
Day Courses in Social Research and the CAQDAS Networking project and are holding
two events ( Introductory and Follow-up level) for ATLAS.ti v6
BOTH ARE BEING HELD ON _29 JUNE 2011_ at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.
ATLAS.ti 6 is a flexible and sophisticated instrument to assist in the analysis of textual and multimedia, qualitative data,
see more about it at: http://www.atalsti.com
1. INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP FOR ATLAS.ti 6.
Tutor is Graham Hughes of the CAQDAS/QUIC projects (at University of Surrey)
The Workshop will cover the assignment of data (e.g. Interview data), data preparation and organisation, coding and retrieval, text searching and queries, and the visual expression of connections within the project using the Network tool will also be included. If there is time, reference will be made to the handling of multimedia.
WHO CAN ATTEND? Complete or near beginners (but you should have an idea of what your approch to qualitative data analysis per se, is)
(Graham Hughes has been carrying out research for the QUIC Project regarding the integration and handling of survey and geo-referencing tools in multiple qualitative packages, including ATLAS.ti. He has created detailed resources to debate and support the practice of handling specific forms of qualitative data and integrating them with quantitative information - see
2. FOLLOW-UP PROJECT SPECIFIC WORKSHOP FOR ATLAS.ti 6.
Tutor is Ann Lewins of QDAS and associate member of the CAQDAS Networking Project
This workshop provides an opportunity for participants to work and be supported (with their own data- where appropriate) and to network with other users of the software. A responsive approach is taken to individual user's needs but the workshop will also deal with a number of common challenges facing users who need to 'move-on' at particular moments of software use.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
a. Users who have attended a previous formalised introductory training of at least a day and have achieved some work with their own data in ATLAS.ti
b. Users who are self taught to a particular standard (please discuss this with [log in to unmask]) and who have also begun to work with their own data in ATLAS.ti
IMPORTANT NOTE: NO INTRODUCTORY LEVEL TRAINING IS GIVEN apart from short recap sessions where necessary.
(Ann Lewins has taught widely in the field of CAQDAS packages, including ATLAS.ti for many years. She was a founder member of the CAQDAS Networking Project. See also: Lewins and Silver (2007) Using Software in Qualitative Research: A Step by Step Guide Sage Publications)
