To be honest, the way the technology is developing, I think any library
service that charges for ebooks is shooting themselves in the foot. Yes
it may sound good in terms of the income stream, but the offer of ebooks
for free is something that would appeal to a lot of people who haven't
used a library in years. My understanding is that where free ebooks
have been offered they have really taken off. I'm not overly convinced
that charging would have the same impact...I would certainly be less
likely to utilise the service in my local authority if they did.
