Apologies if you've seen this already, but I just received the following
message about an Open Source event coming up in Oxford. It's not
particularly library-related, but it is HE-oriented. See below.
Also, I should mention that at the European Innovative User Group
meeting in Glasgow this week, Andrew Wilson of the University of
Stirling gave an interesting talk about his development of a mobile web
app for his university, which was based entirely on an open source
framework called webOSP (at least, I think that's the one they were
using: he mentioned several others). In their survey of users, library
functions like renewing books and searching the catalogue were among the
most requested features, which was good to know.
His presentation is on http://prezi.com/ but I cannot track it down!
The search function seems rather hopeless. The talk was called "Mobile
devices: the m.stir experience". I'll try to get a link to it to
circulate.
How many other universities are looking to open source for mobile web
apps? I know of Oxford (they were mentioned in the talk and appear on
the programme for this event).
